Who We Are

Recovery-Based Community Support

We are Susan and Tim Traurig, co-founders of A Light of Hope.

Like so many parents, we never imagined our family would face the heartbreak of addiction, self-destructive behaviors, and mental health struggles. The fear, confusion, and isolation we felt were overwhelming. We searched desperately for help~support groups, resources, and understanding~but found few places offering the compassionate, family-inclusive support we so desperately needed.

Out of that pain, we felt called to create the community we had been searching for: a safe, welcoming space rooted in principles of recovery and healing, where young people (ages 14–26) and their parents could find hope, peer support, and tools to heal together.

In 2008, we founded A Light of Hope as a nonprofit support center. Today, we offer weekly peer groups, family guidance, and encouragement for those facing substance abuse, cutting, eating disorders, trauma, and other challenges. What began as our family's turning point has grown into a beacon for hundreds of youth, young adults, and parents in the Santa Clarita Valley and beyond.

We started this organization because no family should walk this path alone. If you're reading this and hurting, know that hope is real ~ and A Light of Hope is here to help you find it.

We strive to inspire, encourage, support and celebrate personal growth and spiritual development for families, youth, and young adults in recovery from addiction or self destructive behaviors.

Our Story

Our Mission

Our Vision

We envision spaces where no one feels unseen, unsupported, or alone ~ and where healing happens through connection, trust, and shared experience.

What began as parents supporting their own children became a simple conviction:

No One Should Have to Navigate Recovery Alone.

Tim and Susan Traurig started A Light of Hope through a desire to support their own children, and it grew into something more ~ a commitment to ensure that others facing similar challenges would not have to navigate those moments alone.
