8) What is a typical ALOH Family Support Meeting like?

The meetings are run in a specific format by parent facilitators. Discussions cover such topics as enabling, co-dependency, anger, guilt, hope, and gratitude. Some meetings are focused on education about the effects of drugs and alcohol on the brain, relapse prevention, and family dynamics. In a safe venue, parents and other family members have a chance to share with the group their experiences, and what has worked for them to solve problems. In listening to the other parents, you may find yourself instantly identifying with their similar situations and glean some valuable information or new approaches to try in your own home. In discussions there is always a common theme we can all connect with: we are there to help one another.
