2018 - Year End - Thank You!
Dear Family, Donors, and Friends,
Wishing you every happiness this Christmas season of light and renewal, and prosperity in the New Year. Thank you for being a Friend of A Light of Hope in 2018!
Because of your generosity, prayers and donations, and our amazing volunteers supporting the mission of A Light of Hope, we continue to be a safe haven and vital community resource for people brought together by their child’s addiction, substance abuse or other self-destructive behaviors. Our no-cost support services provide encouragement, love, healing, strength and transformation for both young people and their parents on their own recovery journey. On dark days we are here to remind you that you are a good person, you are loved and valued regardless of your current situation or past.
2018 has been an incredible year at ALOH. Thank you for standing with us! We have seen steady growth in our weekly support groups and fun sober Weekend Alternative Peer Group (APG) activities with our young people. We feel most inspired about the changes we watch take place in the lives of so many young people and their families. People become educated about addiction, and are being restored through love, encouragement and acceptance. The stigma is shattered. Here in our rooms they can find an end to the fear and isolation that can only be imagined and feared by someone who hasn’t experienced a similar pain. Individuals are healing their hurts, and learning how to communicate within their families in a healthier way. They exemplify courage, grace, community, and integrity as they strive for a healthy recovery.
We have some incredible memories from this past year as an organization:
We have increasing sober time among our young people. Nearly every week a young person reaches the milestone of 30-day sobriety and receives the treasured Monkey’s Fist leather necklace, on the start of a long journey! Recovery is worth it, step-by-step, day-by-day, and we extend them our love and encouragement.
Together with community partners and supporters such as you, we hosted our Fifth Annual “Be The Light 5K/10K” night run/walk! 1,000 participated in the event, and helped us raise $7,500 towards supporting our programs. We can’t wait to do this again in 2019!
We had our first “Night of Hope” event this year where over 200 people came and enjoyed food from 5 different countries, raffles, Magic Castle magicians and music with a band from Ireland. We raised over $6,000 for A Light of Hope and our families.
We will be open in our new facility on January 1, 2019, at 21176 Centre Point Pkwy. #300, Canyon Country, CA 91350! We look forward to more growth, both in attendance and in the journey towards healing.
Thank you so much for your faithful generosity; this is what allows ALOH to continue to make such a significant impact in the lives of many people. More families will need our services. Lasting change happens when people become educated about the disease of addiction and have support, safety and a place to learn and grow. We would like to invite you to continue investing your resources in the lives that will be impacted through our organization in 2019 and beyond. Our greatest current need is funding our increasingly attended weekly APG sober activities.
The light is always on here. You are not alone. Every day is a precious gift. Susan and I, and our Board of Directors, thank you for partnering with A Light of Hope.
With love and gratitude,
President and Co-Founder
